With Cube selected in Object mode: Press CTRL + 2 to subdivide. The number you press corresponds to the level of subdivide, CTRL + 3 is usually good
In edit mode with one or more faces selected, Press "I", may need to be zoomed out, may need to double press "I"

To orient the viewport to a non X, Y, or Z view, highlight the plane and press 'shift +num7' this enables dragging up-down-left-fight along the plane
To Sphere - "Shift+ALt+S" converts selection to spehere (or circle)
Last Operation window - Is the tool specific menu that appears in the lower left to adjust the options of each individual operators

Extrude Manifold - Alt+E+M - While extruding faces inwards, undesired artifact occurs, while target faces highlighted press alt+e and select extrude manifold.

Example exercises
Add image texture to object:
Select object in object mode
select 'material properties' (red sphere) on right
for 'surface' select 'diffuse BSDF'
click the color button circle
in the expanded menu, click 'image texture'
click 'open'
open a new viewport window
select object and enter edit mode
click the editor type button in the upper left hand corner and select 'UV editor'
in the standard 3d viewport window, select 'viewport shading' sphere (upper right)
